JOB FUNCTION
This job requires the post holder to provide search and rescue, firefighting, fire prevention, public awareness education and other emergency services island-wide and respond to marine emergencies within the territorial boundaries. Functions also include conducting checks and tests on fire service appliances and equipment, inspecting the aerodrome to ensure adherence to life safety and fire prevention regulations; conducting familiarization visits to factories and institutions, inspecting public buildings and sources of water supply within the station ground, making records of daily activities, and maintaining other pertinent records through filing systems at the station.
The firefighter also maintains the station and equipment and participates in the approved training program of the service. In addition, the post holder must perform administrative and associated duties with the division.
A. KEY DUTIES
- Respond immediately and safely to all operational incidents, undertake fire-fighting, rescue services, to save and protect life, property and the environment.
- Undertake the routine testing and maintenance of station and personal protective equipment, appliances, and other resources to ensure operational readiness and assist in fire investigation activities
- Monitor and test communication equipment to ensure a constant state of readiness in the watch-room environment.
- Utilize advanced call-handling techniques when appropriate and provide survival advice and guidance to callers in danger.
- Provide fire safety training, advice, support, guidance and conduct risk assessments to internal and external customers to ensure compliance with the Fire and Rescue Service Act and associated regulations.
- Participate in domestic, Land and Sea Search and Rescue, runway inspections, airfield familiarizations in accordance with Airport Regulations and Fire and Rescue Service Act and associated regulations.
- Participate in evacuation drills and provide information on Fire Safety and Fire Prevention practices to the general public
- Engage in professional and developmental training in OTAR 140, CAP 699 and station programmes to enhance competencies as required by the job function.
- Respond to incidents that involve hazardous materials and provide an escort service and fire cover during the transportation of explosives.
- Participate in departmental projects, meetings, site visits, parades and other national activities as required.
- Successfully complete the annual medical and fitness assessments to ensure compliance in accordance with OTAR 140, Airport Fire Service Manual and Fire Service Act and Regulations.
- Undertake Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and Self Contain Underwater Breathing Apparatus (SCUBA) other specialist duties.
- Conduct workplace risk assessments of all accidents, near misses, and dangerous occurrences at work, and report any hazardous situations or shortcomings to the next level manager
