JOB FUNCTION
To inform, entertain and educate the general public through effective communication via the radio.
|
|
JOB TITLE: Announcer
|
|
A. KEY DUTIES
- Read news in formats and at times designated by station management.
- Announce commercials and infomercials as required by station programming.
- Conduct and coordinate musical programmes and related arrangements.
- Record programmes as directed by the station’s management.
- Cue and start recorded materials, maintain proper volume levels and monitor off-air transmissions to ascertain quality of sound reproduction.
- Operate studio control room equipment including microphones, sound mixers, audio recorders, sound mixers, monitors and computers.
- Document the broadcast programme log to maintain an accurate record of all transmitted materials noting discrepancies and deviations from scheduled programme material
- Conduct interviews with special interest or designated personnel.
- Responds to calls from listening audience regarding such matters as music selection
- Conduct field commentaries on topics, subjects, events, places or persons of interest to listeners.
- Strive consistently to provide excellence in customer service in the public sector.
- Initiate new ways of doing things and embrace and contribute to change.
- Embrace the use of ICT to improve services offered to customers.
- Live the attributes of the Leadership Statement.
- Foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration.
- Participate in disaster management activities designed to prepare for, mitigate against and respond to disaster events.
- Perform other related duties as required by the job function.

D. QUALIFICATIONS
The incumbent must possess a good command of the English Language and have good oral and written skills, good interpersonal, communicative and computer skills. Should have a knowledge of musical history, composition and composers. Must have a flair for radio and be willing to bring innovative ideas designed to improve the station’s image and function.
Should be able to work as part of a team and have team leadership capabilities; possess effective interpersonal and communicative skills and interact professionally with employees and outside representatives.
This knowledge, skills and abilities are normally obtained by the acquisition of at least four CSEC passes at General Proficiency Grades I, II or III or their equivalent, including English Language, or four years radio announcing experience.
